Mrs Yeoman’s Scone Recipe
Scones
Ingredients
250g SR flour
1 teaspoon sugar
Pinch of salt
50g butter
150ml milk
2oz grated cheese or 2oz dried fruit
- Preheat oven to gas 7 or 200C
- Mix flour, sugar and salt
- Add butter in small pieces
- Rub butter into flour so that it looks like breadcrumbs
- Add fruit/cheese
- Add enough milk to bring dough together
- Using your hands shape dough into a disc 1 inch or 2.5cm thick
- Cut into 6 pizza style or use a cutter
- Brush tops with milk to glaze
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until nicely golden
- Scones are fairly healthy – much less fat and sugar than cupcakes
- Scones are cheap to make – a batch costs approximately 30p
